During Mining Indaba 2025, ENDIAMA shared the stage with De Beers CEO, Al Cook, and the Minister of Mining in Botswana, Hon. Bogolo Kenewendo, to discuss the topic: “Diamonds – Critical for Africa’s Socio-Economic Development.”
The session highlighted the macro social impact that natural diamond mining has in Angola and Botswana, showcasing schools, universities, and hospitals funded by the industry.
During his intervention, Miguel Vemba, Director of Mining Operations at ENDIAMA, emphasised the transformative power of diamond mining in Angola. He cited examples such as the construction of universities, schools, and healthcare facilities, illustrating how natural diamonds contribute to sustainable development.
Vemba also addressed the contrast between natural and synthetic diamonds, stating that synthetic diamonds lack this legacy. “A story cannot be created in a laboratory. With natural diamonds, we see real-world examples of how we are building and transforming development”, he said.
At the end of the discussion, all speakers agreed on the need to tell the true story of the transformational power of natural diamonds, highlighting their role in driving the social and economic development of nations.
