Catoca Journalism Award presidente of jury met in Saurimo, with journalists from eastern Angola, to provide clarification about the category of “Journalist of the East”, one of the most competed by professionals of the class, working for the media based in the provinces of Lunda Sul, Lunda Norte and Moxico.

Teixeira Cândido said the moment served to dispel some doubts and omissions, resulting from the interpretation made of the rules of the prize, by journalists from that part of the country.

Cândido made it known, on the other hand, that “any professional can compete for the Catoca Journalism Award, provided he meets the necessary requirements for this purpose”.

These requirements include, essentially, presenting a journalistic work carried out between February 2022 and April 2023, published through an Angolan media outlet.

Applications are open until the 10th of April, via e-mail premiodejornalismo@catoca.com, or at the company’s premises in Talatona, Luanda, or in Saurimo, Lunda Sul.

According to Teixeira Cândido, each professional may apply with only one of his works and in only one of the seven categories of the contest.

The initiative of the Catoca Journalism Award is part of the social responsibility of Sociedade Mineira de Catoca, the fourth largest open pit diamond mine in the world, whose main shareholders are ENDIAMA, currently with 59%, and the Russian multinational company Alrosa with 41%.
