Natural diamonds are not only the most precious and timeless stones in the world, but also the basis of Angola’s prosperity, providing stability and livelihoods for millions of people.

This statement was made by the chairman of the board of directors of ENDIAMA-E.P, Ganga Júnior, during the formal accession of ENDIAMA and Sodiam as members of the Natural Diamond Council, after completing all the legal and regulatory requirements for this purpose.

A statement from the International Natural Diamond Council reports that the formalisation of the act is a milestone that follows the principles outlined in the Luanda Agreement, co-signed in June last year by representatives of diamond-producing countries and industry stakeholders, including Angola, Botswana, De Beers and representatives of the intermediate sector, signalling a common commitment to support the natural diamond industry and the communities whose lives and livelihoods depend on it.

According to the document, the Agreement reflects a common vision to take decisive action, supported by sufficient resources, for the long-term health and integrity of the natural diamond industry.

It also notes that the recent receipt of Angola’s financial contribution is tangible proof of the proactive commitment established by the Luanda Agreement.

ENDIAMA is the Angolan state-owned company responsible for managing the country’s diamond resources and ensuring their sustainable development for the benefit of the Angolan people.

In turn, the National Diamond Trading Company of Angola (Sodiam) is responsible for marketing and is the sole export channel for Angolan diamonds, overseeing the marketing of Angola’s natural diamond production on the global stage.
