Angola currently has a diamond reserve of around 732 million carats, which, when sold at an average price of two hundred US dollars each, would raise more than 140 billion dollars for the state coffers.
The information was given today, Thursday, in Luanda, by ENDIAMA-E.P.’s Director of Mining Operations and Participation Management, Miguel Vemba, during UNESCO’s 10th African Engineering Week & African Engineering Conference, which began on the 9th and runs until tomorrow, Friday 13th.
Speaking about “the prospects for boosting diamond production in Angola”, Miguel Vemba recommended the use of new technologies to identify diamond reserves and to carry out statistics more efficiently using these tools.
He also said that as part of the return to its own production, ENDIAMA has been working on two projects, namely Xamacanda and Luachimba, adding that the latter could enter a pilot production phase in the first quarter of 2025.
